Rebecca Perry has been the Owner and Director of Broadway Academy since its inception 25 years ago. After teaching performing arts and directing productions in high schools, Rebecca decided to create the kind of place she would have loved to attend as a child.
Broadway Academy is now a thriving theatre school with almost 400 students attending weekly rehearsal classes and regular holiday programs. A strong focus on inclusion, belonging and quality programs has allowed hundreds of young people to thrive both in their performance skills and life skills.
Rebecca is highly involved in the international Junior Theatre Festivals, becoming the very first 'Broadway Jr Ambassador' in 2017. This honour included a trip to New York and Atlanta to meet with industry professionals.
Growth in the business has been steady over the past 10 years including many successes and some challenges. A recent issue with a venue lease has been a huge learning curve and it's now time to make decisions about the size and impact I would like to aim for.
Rebecca spent several years mentoring fellow performing arts studio owners through a global organisation and since leaving that position has been searching for a group of women business owners to join. She is looking forward to learning, collaborating and sharing with the inspirational women in this group and can offer experiences from her 25 year business career, a meeting space in Mt Martha for events and performing arts expertise if ever needed!
