Progress in Action: Moonah House Moves Closer to Opening Its Doors

At Women in Business Mornington Peninsula & Frankston, we’re proud to support organisations that create real impact for women in our community.

One of our charity partners, Moonah House – a Women’s Community Shelter initiative, continues to make inspiring progress toward establishing a safe haven for women and children facing crisis on the Mornington Peninsula.

Over the past year, the Moonah House Board and the Women’s Community Shelters (WCS) team have been hard at work behind the scenes — building strong foundations in governance, policies, and community partnerships to bring their vision to life. Their goal? To open the doors of Moonah House by 2026 and provide a much-needed refuge for women and children in our region.

Community Support and Awareness

The response from the local community has been nothing short of incredible. Moonah House has been welcomed as the charity partner for several local events and clubs, with generous contributions from members and supporters helping move this project closer to reality. The team has also been engaging with schools and youth programs, working with Year 9 and 10 students through Enlighten Education, the educational arm of WCS, to promote respectful relationships and positive change from the ground up.

Building Strong Foundations

While visible progress may seem gradual, the work being done behind the scenes is essential. The Board has been finalising governance frameworks, launching a new website, and meeting all DGR charity requirements. These important steps ensure long-term sustainability and transparency, creating a strong platform for future growth and impact.

Looking Ahead

As Moonah House moves closer to opening, the organisation is expanding its capacity and reach. They are now calling for local professionals to lend their skills in volunteering, social media, marketing, communications, and community engagement. This next phase will help build the supporter base needed to bring Moonah House fully to life.
